I’ve discontinued my Amazon Prime membership, opting for just the regular account. They’ve increased the price over the years, and though they added features, I don’t really use most of them. The Prime Video has some good stuff but it’s a pretty small selection overall, with things coming and going and it rarely has what I’m feeling like at the moment. I still get free shipping as a non-member. It is perhaps a little slower, but still plenty fast for me. I have to hit a $35 minimum to get free shipping, but I was already grouping my purchases as a holdover from when I didn’t have Prime.
And of course, Amazon the company is getting a bit too successful and powerful to give extra money to. They seem to be aggressive about pushing Prime too. I set my account to not auto-renew last year. As my end date approached, they sent an email saying that my account would renew soon. So much for disabled auto-renew. Then they sent a text saying the same thing. That was enough to make me feel certain in my decision to leave. So I logged in, found where to quit, was briefly stopped by the emphasis on pausing instead of cancelling, but ultimately went forward with fully cancelling. I can rejoin at any time if I want.
