I have decided to create an ideas page and section with a sub-page per idea to hold all my ideas instead of doing them as posts on my blog. This is largely because I view blog posts as temporal things that are only really modified for fixes after initial publishing, whereas regular pages are evergreen, modified as much as desired to achieve their purpose. I want to be able to update my ideas if I come up with more details, find a better way to explain them, or even want to take them in a different direction. I have many idea posts that have sat unpublished, languishing waiting for a more thorough handling. As pages, I will be able to put up the skeleton of an idea and flesh it out later.
It will also help me to organize and manage my ideas. I will be able to see all of them together, and hopefully eventually within categories and/or tags. I will more easily be able to see related ideas and if I already have something matching what I'm thinking that could maybe just be tweaked.
Early on, my personal site did have the ideas as a separate section. I think they were managed in MacJournal then. When I started blogging with PBlog and then WordPress, it seemed easiest to just copy them into that as posts. That put them on my main blog page and in my RSS feed.
I've had more than a hundred posts in the Thoughts & Ideas category of my blog. Some of them are thoughts rather than ideas, and will stay there. I plan to leave the posts as is (keeping the temporal record of the blog), but eventually copy them over to the ideas section and put links at the top of the posts to the more up to date pages.
The ideas section right now is just a manually managed list in a markdown file of links pointing to blog posts or markdown files in the ideas section. I would eventually like to add something to the wiki-site software that runs this site now to manage listing the idea items, supporting tags / categories, and CLI commands to add and work on them. I'd want it to have an RSS feed to make them easier to follow, which my new ideas will currently not have. I could potentially modify my wiki-blog software to be able to accommodate this sort of structure via settings, since it already has many of these things.
I have created one idea in this section so far, Jury of peers and pros. It suggests having juries being a mix of peers and judge equivalents, to check the biases of both. Hopefully there are many more to come.
