F-droid basic

I’m switching my Android devices from F-Droid to F-Droid Basic. They’re both made by the F-Droid team, but the Basic version is simpler, lighter weight, and most importantly for me, with fewer permissions. I don’t need any of the sharing and the like the non-basic version has. I use F-Droid to install some open source software on my phones / e-readers: Aegis AntennaPod, EinkBro, Fennec, GadgetBridge, Thunderbird, VLC. So far I’m happy with the switch.


My Moto X phone, a stand-in for my non-functioning Pixel 3a, scared me by force shutting down and then getting stuck in a reboot loop for a bit. That’s too similar to the behavior of the Pixel. Luckily, plugging it into a different USB charger and giving it time, the problem resolved itself and it has been running fine for almost a full day. Hopefully, that keeps up, as I still haven’t gotten the Pixel going or figured out what I want for a new phone.


Pixel phone may be dead?

My “current” phone (4.5 year old Pixel 3a) may be dead. I now can’t get it past the login screen and have moved to my previous phone, my Moto X. That buys me some time until I can figure out what to do. It started late Friday night and has been my weekend project.

Sign and submit PhoneGap app for iOS and Android

After some struggling, I got the PhoneGap app for the Akron Art Prize submitted to the iOS and Android app stores. Since it was a new thing for me and I wanted to ensure I could do it again, I took some notes on how to submit them to each store. I tried to do as much with the PhoneGap CLI as possible so it was easily reproducible from a git repo. Note that I used ‘cordova-icon’ and ‘cordova-splash’ for the PhoneGap-side assets, so I didn’t need to touch the platform folders beyond what is mentioned below.
