This year, my larger redbud tree has only a few blooms on it and seemingly has gone straight to leaf. Last year, it fully bloomed and looked great. This year, it went to leaf right away while almost all the redbuds I’ve seen have bloomed nicely. It does seem to be growing faster this year than last: Must be focusing its energy on growth. So, hopefully next year it’ll be in full bloom again.

My tiny front sapling is still too small for blooms and has also gone straight to leaf. I’m glad it’s still doing fine.


Arborvitaes

This past weekend, I planted the last of four arborvitaes that I bought back in spring. I wanted something for a bit of privacy in my backyard, and read that arborvitaes are native-ish, easy to care for, and great for privacy. I saw them 50% off at Petiti’s one day while looking for other stuff, so I went ahead and picked up four that were maybe 4 some feet tall for $200.

Weird commute home tonight. Thunder, no: fireworks. Car flashing brights. Tree down across the road, had to clear a path. Skunk by the driveway.

A couple branches of the big tree behind my yard have cracked, swung down, and are now dangling. I’d say they are maybe 20 feet long and a couple inches or so in diameter at the top.

Welcome, redbud tree

This past weekend, I bought and installed a tree in my back yard, an eastern redbud, after years of wanting some kind of redbud. I had been thinking of getting the smaller weeping variety, but this year I finally decided I’d be willing to get the native tree variety.

Today, another falling tree incident happened. As I was driving to my parents’ for dinner, coming around a turn, I came upon a fallen tree, all the way across the road.
